A New Career

How does one decide? Does something sound good nd you just do it?

The prospect of returning to school has been on the horizon and I just do not know what to do about it. There are things that are appealing about it and equally, things that are apalling about it. You can only be in your head about it so much.

I hate making decisions.

Before I decided architecture (and lets not get started on how that's probably not what I'll end up doing as a career when all is said and done) I took an online career test (something that tells based on interest what you'd like to do). Then I took one at my community college. My advisor sent me to take it, then discussed with me the results and what careers looked like something I might like based on my interests (ex. Do you like to work away from home, do you like to travel, do you like math, do you like working with a lot of people, smaller groups, alone, etc.)

Start online. When I thought I wanted to be a nurse-midwife, I volunteered at a health clinic, and then it turned into a paid position. After a while of that, and working as a pharmacy tech at CVS and taking a few bio classes, I decided it wasn't so much for me. I mostly just wanted to deliver babies. Volunteer, find people online who have the career you seem interested in, ask them questions, make an appointment to talk to a professor of that subject. Most people are willing to help you decide.
